Kindergarten admission guide

Most Hong Kong kindergartens are private and run their own admissions. Some join the Free Quality Kindergarten Education Scheme with fee subsidies; international / non-local curricula differ.

Kindergarten vs KG-cum-child care centre

EDB lists both “Kindergartens” and “Kindergarten-cum-child Care Centres”. The latter are also regulated by SWD and may take younger children. Both may offer AM, PM or whole-day sessions — check age groups and extended services.

How to use this site

On the rankings page, filter by district and school type, or start from the 18 districts list. School pages show address, session, religion and estimated competitiveness. Scores are rough awareness proxies — not admission odds.

Sources and limits

Directory from EDB “School Location and Information”. EDB does not publish official KG banding; ranks here are transparent heuristics marked “Est.” Media shortlists may be added later. Always confirm with EDB and schools.

FAQ

Does EDB publish official kindergarten rankings?
No. There is no official KG banding. Our scores are for rough comparison only and are not government grades.
Why is funding type almost always “Private”?
EDB’s public location dataset marks most kindergartens as private. Scheme participation and fee subsidies need to be checked via EDB scheme lists or the school directly.
Does a high rank mean better or easier admission?
No. Estimates use district and brand proxies and are not quality or admission metrics. Visit schools and follow official notices.
